Wise Road Animal Hospital in Schaumburg, IL is a companion animal hospital focusing on the health and well-being of your dog and/or cat. Our Doctors and staff are committed to providing quality veterinary care throughout the life of your pet. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime.

Our goal is practicing the highest quality medicine and surgery with compassion, with an emphasis on client education. Our entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet owner.

  • Dr. Rick DeCraene

    Dr. Rick DeCraene has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1990.
    He joined Wise Road Animal Hospital in 2000.  A native of Iowa, Dr. DeCraene grew up in the Davenport area and attended Iowa State University where he majored in Microbiology and received his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1990.

    In his free time, Dr. DeCraene enjoys photography, music and hiking National parks with his wife, three children and dog, "Buster".  You can find "Buster" gracing the pages of our website.

    Dr. DeCraene is a member of The Society of Phi Zeta (the Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine), Omega Tau Sigma (professional veterinary fraternity), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA), and the Chicagoland Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).
  • Dr. Carla Pfeiffer

    Dr. Pfeiffer has worked at Wise Road Animal Hospital since 2009. She grew up on the east coast in Rhode Island and New York before her family moved to Illinois then Indiana. Her undergraduate degree was obtained from Purdue University and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in Champaign in 2005. Dr. Pfeiffer is an USDA/APHIS accredited Veterinarian.

    While she has owned dogs, cats, rabbits and other exotic pets, currently Dr. Pfeiffer has 2 cats, "Timmy" and "Ernst" who appear in our webpages.  Dr. Pfeiffer understands that a happy pet is not only physically healthy but also mentally well-adjusted and socially well-behaved.  Her interests include behavioral medicine and basic training.

    Dr. Pfeiffer is a member of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Association for Women Veterinarians (AWV).

    Dr. Pfeiffer and her husband enjoy spending as much time as possible with their son, Patrick.
  • Lyn Kramer

    Surgery Assistant
    Lyn has been at Wise Road Animal Hospital since 2000.

    Her skills include animal handling and restraint, blood collection and surgical monitoring.  

    Lyn owns a Great Dane "Bella" who you can see gracing the pages of our website.

    Lyn's hobbies include staining glass.  She has been making the "hair heart" remembrances for deceased pets of clients of Wise Road Animal Hospital since 2003.
  • Jackie Sparacino

    Surgery Assistant
    Jackie has been at Wise Road Animal Hospital since 2002.  She enjoys working with people and providing excellent customer service.  She previously worked with a large airline as a flight attendant where she learned to handle pressure and difficult situations.

    At home, she has a labradoodle named Doodle, a Golden Retriever named Leo and a mixed breed named Charlie.  She has an interest in behavior and training and has also spent some time working with a local canine day care/boarding/training facility, Pals for Pups.
  • Jennifer Lorenzi

    Veterinary Assistant and Lab Technician
    Jennifer has worked at Wise Road Animal Hospital since 2008.

    She loves working with the animals as well as in the laboratory.

    Currently Jennifer owns 2 cats, "Briggs" and "Joey".  They couldn't wait to be photographed for our website.

  • Jessica Thommes

    Certified Veterinary Technician
    Jessica came back to work with us in 2010 when she moved back to the Schaumburg area after living in the city for 2 years, and we are thrilled to have her back.

    Jessica attended Joliet Junior College where she is received her Associates degree in Applied Veterinary Technology and subsequently became certified as a Veterinary Technicican.  After an exciting internship at a zoo in Maryland this spring, and graduation in May, she returned home ready to dive back in to her new responsibilities.

    Jessica has owned a menagerie of animals including Great Danes, rabbits, Chameleons and schools of fish!

  • Lora Ellwanger

    Certified Veterinary Assistant
    Lora came to work with us in 2009 after an internship in and a short stint at Lemont Veterinary clinic.

    After many years in other professions Lora followed a dream and earned her certification at Harper College as a Veterinary Assistant and we are excited she has joined our staff.

    Lora and her cat Louie love to spend time outside in their garden, although Lora does most of the work and Louie is more into sunning and monitoring the yard.

    Lora also has a wonderful voice, and while she is not currently working with a band, has been called on to sing to our clients' pets to help soothe them in times of stress.
  • Chuck Pfeiffer

    Veterinary Reception
    Chuck embarked on a new career with Wise Road Animal Hospital in 2010.  Previously Chuck worked in accounting, logistics, and customer service and merchandising.

    Chuck enjoys his time here with our clients and their pets.  When you visit us don't be surprised when Chuck wants a picture with your pet and to chat with you about your automobile.

    Chuck thoroughly enjoys being a new Dad and whenever possible takes his son to car shows, parks and museums. Chuck's current cats are "Ernst" and "Timmy", and he has previously owned a Beagle dog and other cats.
  • Sandy Bytnar

    Veterinary Receptionist/Assistant
    Sandy came to Wise Road Animal Hospital in December 2011 after working at another local veterinary hospital for 3 years.  We are happy to see her bright and cheerful face at our front desk.

    When not at work she enjoys spending her days watching her Grandson and caring for her Shepard/Lab mix Sabrina and two cats; Mr. Boots and Josie Cat.

    Her favorite activities include painting and working in her garden.
  • Nicole Hilborn

    Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist
    In April of 2012 Nicole came to Wise Road Animal Hospital from her previous position as a Groomer's Assistant and she has been a welcome addition to our staff.

    Nicole has had many pets over the years including dogs, cats, rabbits, parakeets, fish and a Garter snake.  Currently she has a Bullmastiff named Sarge and two cats; Maui and Lilly.  

    Nicole has a Bachelors of Heath Science degree.  Looking ahead, Nicole will be getting married this spring in Marco Island, Florida.
  • Samantha Bieschke

    Veterinary Receptionist
    Sam arrived at Wise Road Animal Hospital in May of 2012.  She has aspirations of returning to school to obtain a certification in Veterinary Technology.  Her loud and funny personality keep us entertained.

    While she has had many pets over the years, including; hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, frogs and an iguana, she currently lives with her dog Yoshi.
    Sam is a fan of bargains and enjoys hunting for great deals at thrift stores.  She is a talented artist, trained in CPR and also works summers at local pools as a lifeguard.
